چکیده

A 62-year-old woman was admitted with syncope. A magnetic resonance imaging showed a 6-cm  3-cm mass on the pulmonary valve leaflet (Fig. 1). A 90 mmHg pressure gradient was found (Fig. 2). Angiogram revealed a severely calcified, mobile mass (Fig. 2, Videos 1 and 2), which was treated surgically. On histopathology analysis, a papillary fibro-elastoma diagnosis was confirmed. Fig. 1. Shows a 6 cm by 3 cm mass on the pulmonary valve leaflet at magnetic resonance image. Fig. 2. Shows a big mass on the pulmonary valve leaflet, severely calcified, mobile with no contrast enhancement (no contrast filling) and limited edges (A and B). The small picture shows a 65 mmHg pressure gradient between right ventricle and pulmonary artery (C).

The Evaluation of Pulmonary Function Tests in Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Introduction: Recently a relation between female sex hormones and severity of asthma symptoms has been proposed. As a common endocrine dysfunction, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) could significantly influence the level of sex hormones in PCOS patients. Regarding the possible role of sex hormones in airway physiology, the present study was conducted to survey the effects of PCOS on pulmonary f...

Is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease an independent risk factor for transfusion in coronary artery bypass graft surgery?

OBJECTIVE The literature is inconsistent regarding the role of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as a risk factor for blood product transfusion during coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). One reason may be lack of objective criteria to define COPD in previously published reports. We examined the role of COPD as a risk factor for transfusion using a strict definition based on objectiv...

A novel technique for pulmonary endarterectomy in the presence of patent coronary artery bypass grafts.

Pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) is the definitive surgical treatment for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, with excellent short- and long-term results. PEA following previous coronary artery bypass graft surgery carries a risk of damage to patent grafts, as well as the risk of inadequate myocardial protection, especially when a patent pedicled internal thoracic artery graft is prese...

Severe obesity does not adversely affect perioperative mortality and morbidity in coronary artery bypass surgery.

METHODS Therefore, the data of 500 consecutive patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting at our department in 1998 by use of cardiopulmonary bypass were analyzed. Severe obesity was defined as body mass index (BMI) > or = 30.0 kg/m(2). Obese patients (n=100; gr...
